GCB started in 1996. By now, the bureau operates as an independent organization with a board consisting of representatives form the three northern Chambers of Commerce, the Municipality of Groningen, the Province of Groningen, the University of Groningen and the local and regional hotel industries. The bureau has the full support of all local and regional governments, trade & industry, the academic world, and the world of education in the North of the Netherlands.
